I went to work Monday morning after a great weekend of trying to get labor started naturally: walking, a couple of doses of castor oil and a wonderful pedicure! As you can imagine, I was a bit frustrated when nothing happened and I had to go to work. Jesse got off early that day and on his way home treated me to lunch at Scuttlebutt where we decided to have jalapeno coins as an appetizer hoping that the spicy food would help get things started. EWH. First off, I dislike spicy foods altogether and even worse jalapenos. Even dousing them in ranch didn't help much. I was on my way home at 5:15pm and text Jessica to confirm our lunch date the following day. As of my appointment the week before I was 2 1/2 centimeters dilated, 75% effaced. I got home, made lunches for the next day and then started dinner when I began to feel very uncomfortable. I laid down on the couch to watch some of the hockey game when Jesse asked if I was okay? I said no and that is when he got his stop watch out and began timing my VERY uncomfortable contractions. It was 6:45pm when they started. I tried walking around to see if it would help when Jesse told me we were going to the hospital.
At first I told him "are you kidding me?" These could go on for HOURS, we do not have to leave right now. But, I was so glad we did because my contractions were 1 1/2 minutes a part the ENTIRE way to the hospital which is a 45 minute drive from our house. Jesse called everyone including the hospital and poor Kylie was in the back seat with her hands over her ears saying "I don't want to hear anything." I wasn't yelling or saying awful things just yet, but I could NOT get comfortable for the life of me in the truck from squirming all around, rolling the window up and down, you get the picture. My water broke when we hit Everett and if it weren't for Jesse's confirmation that they were ready for me with my epidural, I am not sure if I would have made it. We arrived at 7:40pm, our families took Kylie and I kept saying to the nurse "I just want my epidural." She said "let's get you in there and see where you are at." Once my doctor peeked....she said "you have done the hardest part, you just have to push him out." "WHAT???" I said! I was SHOCKED that I was at that point with NO epidural. That was NOT my birth plan.
After a handful of VERY painful pushes and F bombs, here was what we had been waiting for: Mason James Daurie 8lbs, 6oz and 20 3/4 inches long at 8:01pm. Healthy and perfect in every way!

My mom, Jesse's mom and our sister were also there, but I didn't get all those pictures to upload here. I will be posting several more as I go. It was a very special day meeting the sweetest, newest addition to our family. He is a gift in so many ways! We are so blessed!
